Born in Lahore, Pakistan, Shireen Kamran now lives and works in Montreal, Quebec. She has a Bachelor in Fine Arts cum laude in Studio Arts from Concordia University, Montreal. She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions, and her works can be found in both corporate and private collections.
Her work is autobiographical to some extent, a visual language engaging in a search for self, drawing on cultural traditions perceived to be forbidden. She have always been deeply engaged in art and her sensibility has been shaped by her experiences as a woman in a traditional society. Her work draws on Sufism seeking to contemporise the mystical, through form and function. In her endeavor to forge a relationship between her new cultural environment and her past, she looks for ways to interweave self, nature and culture in a harmonious way.
